Training

Introduction

The AIAS Training Programme is multifaceted and seeks to serve a wide range of constituencies with the ultimate goal of improving land and agrarian policy process in Africa . The training programme's main goal is to ensure that Africa becomes master of her own destiny in terms of designing and implementing sustainable land and agrarian policies that will ensure that the rural poor have equitable and secure access to natural resources, their land rights are secure, are food secure and above all are contributing towards national food security and ultimately national development.

Objectives of Training Programme

  • To set the broad framework for capacity building for land and agrarian policy research, advisory mediation on land issues.
  • To mobiles interest among young scholars or researchers on the unresolved issues within the land and agrarian questions
  • To promote the study of agrarian studies at post-graduate level.
  • To develop policy analysis skills
  • To develop a critical mass of scholars, policy implementers and activists that will promote sustainable land and agrarian policies in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • To ensure that there is adequate capacities within the public sector and the NGO sector to design, implement and analyze agrarian policy
  • To contribute towards the development of alternative development frameworks based on equitable redistribution of resources.

The Training Programmes focus is regional but will however take cognizance of the specificities affecting every country. The Training programmes will be rolled out via four interrelated dynamic strategic interventions as follows:

  • Short Course Programme,
  • Post Graduate Research Support Programme,
  • Summer School (Agrarian Studies Institute)
  • Post-Graduate Degree Training Support.
