Training

Our training activities are geared towards building policy research and analytical skills amongst students, agrarian sector organisations, civil society actors including NGOs and media bodies, government policy makers, researchers, development workers, agricultural extension workers, and other agrarian sector stakeholders. In the region, the SMAIAS arranges an annual Summer School on Agrarian Studies for young scholars in collaboration with Rhodes University, University of Cape Town, University of Brasilia (Brazil), University of Dar es Salaam, Hakiardhi (Tanzania) and International Development Economics Associates (India).

The SMAIAS actively supports the next generation of scholars pursuing research that advances knowledge about land, agrarian and resource issues in Zimbabwe. In the past years SMAIAS has mentored Masters and PhD students from regional and international learning institutions through the successful completion of their studies.   The SMAIAS Research Fellowship programme gives PhD and post Doctoral Students with research projects in our areas of specialization the opportunity to access our Resource Centre and contribute to a collegial environment of academic enquiry and hands on learning.

Other capacity support initiatives include student training in the form of internships, bibliographic support, supervision of dissertations, academic guidance and advice to both researchers and CSOs working within the broader land and agrarian policy thematic area.
