Dr Gracian Mkodzongi is a Research Associate with the African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS)

 


 

   

Freedom Mazwi is a Research Fellow with the Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies(SMAIAS) and also PhD Candidate with the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, department of Development Studies. His major research interests are land and agrarian issues focusing on the reconfiguration of agrarian capital and markets and is being supervised by Prof Sarah Bracking. He holds a Bsc Hons in Political Science and Msc in Development Studies(Zimbabwe).

Rangarirai Gavin Muchetu is a research fellow with the Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies and also a PhD candidate at the Doshisha University, Graduate School of Global Studies, Japan. He received a BSc (hons) and a Master’s degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from University of Zimbabwe. He is very passionate about analyzing the growth trajectory, opportunities and constraints in the agrarian commodity exchange system. He has been working on a number of research areas which includes land use, food security, productivity, woman land rights, climate change, youth unemployment and illicit financial flows

Toendepi Shonhe is an associate researcher at (SMAIAS). He is an associate member of the Institute of Bankers (IOBZ) having received a diploma from the Institute, a BSc in Agricultural Management from the Zimbabwe Open University, a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. Toendepi is currently studying for a PhD in Development studies, focusing on agrarian change. He is co-supervised by Professor Sam Moyo and Professor Patrick Bond. His thesis is on ‘Land reform, contract farming, class formation and capital accumulation in Zimbabwe: Lessons from tobacco financing and marketing in Hwedza’ .

Ndabezinhle Nyoni is a Research Associate at the SMAIAS. He received a BSc Agriculture (Hons) and a MPhil in Animal Science from the University of Zimbabwe. His research interests are international politics and agricultural development.

Marie-France Baron Bonarjee  is a Research Fellow with the Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS) and PhD Candidate with PLAAS (Poverty Land and Agrarian Studies) at the University of Western Cape , under the supervision of Professor Ben Cousins (NRF Chair).  Her current research interests are the reconfiguration of agrarian capital and markets in Zimbabwe after land reform.
 
She holds a BA(Hons) in international trade & economics (London), an MPhil in Public Administration (Norway), and is professionally qualified as a ship-broker and trader (London, Australia)


  Wilhelm Hesselbach is a Support Analyst and responsible for information management, databases, website and communication via social networks at AIAS. He holds a Master's Degree in Sociology from Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg (Germany). His main research interests are organisational development based on modern system theory and its practical application within the African context.  He is currently finalising his PhD Proposal on this topic.

 

Steven Mberi is a Research Assistant in the office of the Executive Director of AIAS.  He holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from the Midlands State University, Zimbabwe. His research interests lie in the field of land, natural resources management, environmental policy and planning. He is currently aspiring to do a Masters in Development Studies with the University of Zimbabwe.

 Tendai Elizabeth Machemedze is a Research Assistant at the SMAIAS. She holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Agricultural Economics & Extension from the University of Zimbabwe and a certificate in Computer Operations & Packages. Her research interests are related to climate justice, financial inclusion and women’s land rights.

 Kundai Ronald Dube is the bookkeeper for SMAIAS He is a graduate Chartered Secretary with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Zimbabwe, currently he is studying A.C.C.A. His interests lie in corporate governance and financial management.
