Agricultural Land Use, Markets and Trade

This regional research proposal seeks to ensure the development of appropriate agricultural trade policies in light of globalisation by employing a multi-pronged approach, including extensive research, advocacy and dialogue activities (policy debates, consultations, workshops, forums etc.). Among other issues to be considered, the following issues will be examined: market access of African agricultural products; the role of international organisations (e.g. World Trade Organisation, World Intellectual Property Organisation, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development etc.); effects of international trade policies on African agriculture; and constraints underlying agriculture in Africa .

The Institute of Development Studies , University if Guyana , agreed in principle to collaborate with AIAS on this project. More collaborating partners, including the Southern African Research Centre (SARC), Queens University , Canada and the International Development Research Council, were expected to be part of this project.
