What is AIAS?
The AIAS is a regional policy research institute currently based in Zimbabwe.

What does AIAS do?
The AIAS seeks to influence land and agrarian policy through carrying out systematic and rigorous research, providing platforms for dialogue on land and agrarian issues in the region and beyond. It also publishes and disseminates its research outputs to networks, research institutes, government departments, academics/experts and any other entities that use information on land and agrarian issues.

The AIAS operates at policy level. It advocates for agrarian systems that enhance rural livelihoods.

How can I benefit from AIAS?
The AIAS provides research support to post graduate students focusing on land and agrarian issues. The AIAS also regularly holds Policy Review Dialogues on topical issue within the land and agrarian sector. The AIAS also from time to time provides opportunities for training in policy analysis through short courses. Through it publications programme the AIAS provides information on land and agrarian issues in Africa. Some of the information, such as publications, is available on this website but also at our offices in Eastlea, Harare. The AIAS runs a Resource Centre that allows users to access reference material (in the form of reports, widely sought after texts and policy documents) on land and agrarian issues

What services are provided by AIAS and what is the cost?
Reference library, electronic database of research papers by AIAS, training and student supervision for post-graduate candidates. The AIAS in a non-profit organisation and will only try to recover its costs from some of the services provided, otherwise there are no charges for most services.

Does AIAS provide technical advice on agricultural production [crops and livestock]?
AIAS provides policy advice mainly on land and agrarian issues. The institute will however refer those individuals or organisations that need assistance to relevant places where they can get help.

Does AIAS provide funding?
The institute does not provide funding. It may however get involved in collaborative activities with other like-minded organisations in the implementation of selected research projects (From time to time we will post calls for proposals to carry out research). Where necessary, the institute may support researchers in ways that do not necessarily involve providing finance e.g. post-graduate student supervision and providing learning materials.
