Organisational Overview
Key Strategic Issues
The AIAS has been and continues to promote and support the formulation of appropriate models of socio-economic development, sustainable and peaceful democratisation processes, pro-poor development focusing on rural populations and the development of effective and balanced civil society formations. Through these processes The AIAS has been contributing towards the following:
- promoting the realisation of the land rights of the poor especially in rural areas
- reducing land conflicts, disputes and misinformation
- promoting effective land policy management systems (policy formulation, implementation and monitoring)
- promoting land policy reforms in selected priority areas (smallholder rights, farm workers, land tenure, financing land use, etc)
To improve participation and ownership of both the processes and the outcomes, AIAS has been:
- developing the capacities of civil society organisations in policy advocacy;
- improving research and policy analysis capacities;
- promoting meaningful public knowledge based on sound and objective analysis;
- advancing inclusive governance processes in policy process (balanced public participation, fair representation, effective articulation of interests, accountability, etc); and
- promoting public dialogues and the engagement of opponents as a tool of peace building and consensus formation.
To achieve the above the AIAS works through five interrelated Strategic Initiatives:
Research |
To address knowledge gaps among the affected poor and change agents; |
Policy Dialogue |
To improve policy content and processes; |
Training |
To enhance policy analysis skills by supporting policy training institutions, improving content of training, providing continuous learning opportunities and ensuring situation specific policy making; |
Information Dissemination |
To disseminate critical and relevant information on land and agrarian issues |
Networking |
To improve Alliances and Synergies amongst 'like - minded' organisations. |
